This accolade is a testament to Toonz's unwavering commitment to the community he serves. Now, as the back-to-school season approaches, Toonz is gearing up to host his annual back-to-school benefit on August 6, 2023, at his barbershop, located at 509 E. Lufkin Ave., Lufkin, Texas, 75901. This exceptional event aims to ensure that students begin their school year with confidence by offering complimentary haircuts and a shoe giveaway. It is an occasion where the community can come together to celebrate education and make a difference in the lives of young learners. For over 13 years, Isaiah Menefee, affectionately known as Toon, has been an integral part of the Lufkin community as a dedicated barber. His passion for his craft goes beyond just haircuts; it extends to positively impacting the lives of those he serves. Toon has become a beacon of support, providing more than just grooming services to his customers. With a warm smile, infectious enthusiasm, and an attentive ear, Toon has created a space where everyone feels welcome and valued. He goes above and beyond, understanding that a haircut can boost confidence and set the stage for success, especially for students entering a new school year. Toonz Cuts' annual back-to-school benefit stands as a testament to Toon's unwavering dedication to empowering students within the community. This year's event, set to take place on August 6, promises to be an unforgettable experience for students and their families. The primary objective of the benefit is to ensure that every child steps into the classroom with confidence, free from concerns about their appearance. To achieve this, Toonz Cuts will be offering complimentary haircuts to all students attending the event. With the skilled hands of Toon and his team, children can walk out with fresh, stylish haircuts that make them feel ready to take on the world. Beyond the haircut experience, the back-to-school benefit will also feature an exciting giveaway, adding an extra layer of anticipation and joy to the event. Students in attendance will have the chance to walk a way with the complete package, school clothes, shoes, and backpacks. This aspect of the benefit not only lightens the financial burden on families but also fosters a sense of community support and goodwill. Toon and his team firmly believe that every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed, and they are determined to provide this support in any way they can. Toonz Cuts' back-to-school benefit is not only a celebration of education but also an invitation for the community to come together and make a meaningful impact. The event is open to everyone, and attendees are encouraged to participate by donating school clothes, shoes, and backpacks. These contributions will help ensure that every student receives the necessary supplies to start the school year off right. Toon's vision extends beyond the immediate benefit. He understands that education is a lifelong journey and recognizes the importance of nurturing the next generation. By supporting students and instilling in them a sense of confidence and community, Toonz Cuts is contributing to a brighter future for Lufkin and its residents. Toon's journey from a local barber to Business of the Year is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Lufkin community. His annual back-to-school benefit at Toonz Cuts is a reflection of his dedication to empowering students and fostering a sense of confidence as they embark on their educational journeys. On August 6, 2023, the community will come together to celebrate education, provide free haircuts, and give away essential supplies to students in need. D's Roots Market is a natural herb market that offers a wide range of natural herbs, roots, and remedies that are intended to provide a healthy lifestyle for individuals. The company was founded by two sisters, Duneva Branson and Deanna Branson, who have a deep-rooted connection to nature and traditional healing practices. Duneva and Deanna's background originates from their maternal grandparents, Mr. Aaron and Mrs. Mildred Branson, Sr., who grew vegetables and herbs for families to eat from "farm to table." Their grandmother has always used herbs for cough medicine, body pain, constipation, healing, and cooking. The sisters dabbled in the natural lifestyle, but once they experienced family medical issues, they turned to the studies of roots and spiritual guidance for healthy living, which became a "reality check." D's Roots Market believes in the benefits of natural herbs and remedies for managing stress, anxiety, depression, lowering blood sugar, pain, swelling, inflammation, coughs, colds, and many more. They offer a range of herbal teas, herbal roots, and seeds, and while they are not medical practitioners and cannot diagnose or treat any disease, they believe that natural herbs can be used for cooking and daily vitamins and minerals for the body. They compare natural herbs to traditional pharmaceuticals in terms of cost, side effects, and the traditional way of popping a pill compared to drinking 4-6 ounces of tea 3-4 times a day. D's Roots Market has a wonderful Herb Market located in Houston, Texas, where they purchase selective herbs. They also collaborate with other vendors for products and use all selective products purchased. The company focuses on quality and ensuring their customers receive the best natural herbs and remedies. The biggest challenges D's Roots Market faces are customers not trusting the natural process. However, the sisters educate the community through social media, markets, and word of mouth to overcome these challenges. They believe in the power of natural herbs and remedies and want to share their knowledge and experience with others. The natural herb market has evolved over the years, and D's Roots Market has adapted to these changes. When COVID hit America, the natural herb market soared, and D's Roots Market used their products to keep their immune systems healthy. They started sharing information and held a few markets in the community that were very receptive. When they were shut down, they adapted to the change by going to an online store. Wild Crafted Irish Sea Moss is D's Roots Market's number one seller. Sea Moss has 92 essential vitamins and minerals that aid in improving cardiovascular health, thyroid function, natural detox, and energy source to the immune system. Another popular product is Life Everlasting, which aids in the healing of a sore throat, colds, and flu, and can be used internally as a tea or smoke to aid in quitting smoking nicotine. D's Roots Market educates its customers by letting them know that herbs are medicine that can coincide with any other medication they are taking. The disclaimer on all teas and herbs is "We are believers of the benefits of herbal teas and herbal roots and seeds, but we are not medical practitioners and cannot diagnose or treat any disease. You should always consult with your physician or health care provider before using any herbal products." D's Roots Market advises anyone interested in starting a natural herb business to keep dreaming and praying. If the vision is clear, they recommend studying and researching to ensure success in the industry. D’s Roots future is to be known worldwide by opening a store front on the North Side of Lufkin, and continue to be a vessel throughout our community, the City of Lufkin and surrounding Counties! The past year has been marked by a renewed focus on social justice and equality, and one way to make a difference is by supporting Black-owned businesses. Black entrepreneurs have long faced systemic barriers and discrimination, and supporting their businesses is an important way to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our communities. The first step in supporting Black-owned businesses is to seek them out. Many Black entrepreneurs operate small businesses, so it's important to look for them in your local community. Online directories and social media can also be helpful resources for finding Black-owned businesses in your area. Once you've found these businesses, it's important to make a conscious effort to support them. This can include shopping at these businesses instead of larger chains, recommending them to friends and family, and promoting them on social media. Even small actions like leaving positive reviews can make a big difference in helping these businesses thrive. In addition to supporting individual Black-owned businesses, it's also important to advocate for policies that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. This can include supporting initiatives that provide funding and resources for Black entrepreneurs, as well as advocating for policies that address systemic barriers that make it difficult for Black entrepreneurs to succeed. Supporting Black-owned businesses is an important way to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our communities. By making a conscious effort to seek out and support these businesses, we can help create more opportunities for underrepresented groups and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society. Let's continue to support Black-owned businesses and work towards a more just and equitable future.
