✨CONGRATULATIONS to our Pinnacle Award recipient- Born in Lufkin, TX in 1946, Mr. Harris grew up with a strong work ethic and a desire to make a difference in the world around him. After excelling in both academics and sports at Dunbar High School, he went on to study in the School of Pharmacy at Texas Southern University in Houston. But it was his career with the United States Postal Service that truly defined his legacy. As a mail carrier in Lufkin, in the late 1960s, Mr. Harris quickly became a trusted face and source of support for the lower-class black community. He provided free tax services to the elderly, served as a mentor and coach to young people, and became known as "the one who bridges the gap" between different communities. He went on to become the first black interim postmaster in Lufkin and has been instrumental in the hiring of minorities in the USPS. But Mr. Harris's impact goes far beyond his career with the Postal Service. He has been an active member of the Friendship Social Club and has been recognized for his contributions in the field of track and field, having been inducted into the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Dunbar Hall of Fame. He has also been a devoted husband to his wife Cassandra, a loving father to his four children and fourteen grandchildren, and a trusted advisor and mentor to countless individuals in his community. Mrs. Ingram earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stephen F. Austin State University. While working on a busy medical-surgical floor in an East Texas hospital, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2019. Mrs. Ingram is an active member of the Texas Nurse Practitioners and American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
